Saint John’s Memorial Playground Opens

A beautiful KidBuilders® playground named Hannah and Jack’s Sunshine Headquarters just opened in Rockwood Park, New Brunswick. It was built to memorialize RCMP officer Jason Porter, and his children Hannah and Jack Porter, after a tragic car accident took their lives in February 2009. Christy Bursey is thankful to see her family memorialized in such a happy way.

The ‘Headquarters’ took seven years of planning, and was made possible by generous donations from local businesses, community members, the city and both municipal and provincial governments. Collaborations with Marc Doucet, operations manager for parks for the City of Saint John, helped the project along. CBC News quoted Christy as saying “My kids were young, Hannah was 5 and a half, and Jack was almost 3,…They loved being outside, they loved playgrounds, and they loved Rockwood Park, so ending up here was perfect.”

More information and video of the opening are available at this CBC News story http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/memorial-playground-porter-family-1.3640441
